1More 03:32
And it's one more day without your smile One more night alone One more long and lonely trial And I'm weary to the bone One more chance to turn away And leave you on your own But fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Fool I am I won't quit Until I bring you home Lord, her eyes are blue as heaven And her smile outshines the stars She hides a wound that's deep within her That traps her like a prison's bars And it's one more day without your smile One more night alone One more long and lonely trial And I'm weary to the bone One more chance to turn away And leave you on your own But fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Lord, she's had her share of people Who took a lot more than they gave. She sees the wreck they've left behind them And she's thinking that there's nothing left to save And it's one more day without your smile One more night along One more long and lonely trial And I'm weary to the bone One more chance to turn away And leave you on your own But fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home So if you hear these words my dear one Stretch your tender arms towards me You own my heart, now that's forever Take my love and let it set you free And it's one more day without your smile One more night alone One more long and lonely mile On a path of broken stone But I'll take every cut and tear If I can have you for my own 'Cause fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Fool I am, I won't quit Until I bring you home Fool I am, I won't quit

Miracle 03:33
There's a girl in the dark waiting for a light to shine; She's waiting for a celestial sign; She's waiting to be free. All the hurts from her past have taught her every man wears a mask, Have taught her to believe love can't last, That's all that she can see. She won't let you close, no she won't let you in, She'll just turn away. But look in her eyes and you'll see that she needs you to stay. (Chorus) I know she needs a miracle to believe. I know she needs a miracle to believe, I know she needs a miracle to believe. Yeah, she'll tell you she's torn, confused and battered So lost and forlorn her faith is shattered And oh! what a storm rages through her soul. Slapped straight down to the floor, she hides her colors And watches the door, suspecting others will hurt her once more If she doesn't play her role. She wants to be loved and she wants to believe, But her fear's too strong And how could she ever survive if she finds out she's wrong. (Chorus) I know she needs a miracle to believe. I know she needs a miracle to believe, I know she needs a miracle to believe. I am only a man with scars and bruises I do what I can without excuses But how could I ever be everything that she needs? When I look at my heart, I see all the pieces are broken apart My fear increases, 'cause if I fail, she's the one who bleeds. But I won't close my eyes, no I won't close my heart, I won't turn away I'll fight down my demons, I'll pay any price and I'll stay. I know her wounded heart needs a reprieve I know she needs a miracle to believe. I know that her miracle is me. I know that her miracle is me.

I saw her standing in the shadows from the window of my room; And all the early summer blossoms could've been her sweet perfume; And then I turned around in wonder when she touched me on the sleeve; My mind is reeling, I can't tell you – is this a real-life fantasy Or is it only make believe? I saw her dancing in the moonlight and I followed where she led; Her footsteps light upon the grass, her hair a halo 'round her head. There was a magic in her music, like the songs the sirens weave; My mind is reeling, I can't tell you – is this a real-life fantasy? Or is it only make believe? When I awoke at dawn this morning, I was lying in my bed, And all the midnight dreams I'd had were whirling circles through my head. Her perfume's fragrance on the pillow told me I'd find no reprieve, My mind is reeling, I can't tell you – is this a real-life fantasy? Or is it only make believe?

Peace Again 03:04
It's 2 AM. The rain falls down. From where I am, it's a lonely sound. And I wonder where you are; I wonder what you're thinking. Are you safe and warm? I wonder if you're sleeping. If I could hold your hand, If I could lay by your side, I could find peace again; I wouldn't be afraid to dream. If I could only hold your hand, If I could lay by your side, I could find peace again; I could finally close my eyes. It's 4 AM and I'm wide awake. Time to begin again another day.

Misty Rain 02:39
She's walking alone in the misty morning rain. She's tryin' to walk away from all her pain. She may not know just where she's goin' But she knows right where she's been, And she never wants to go back there again. I follow behind her and I keep just out of sight, A guardian angel to keep watch through the night. Though my wings are clipped and tattered And my halo's long-since lost, I follow along and never count the cost. The road is hard and her feet are tired and sore, And she wonders why she bothers any more. But if she stumbles I will catch her, And her burdens gladly share; To see her fall is more than I can bear. She's walking along in the misty morning rain With a guardian angel who understands her pain. We may not know just where we're goin' But together we'll be fine, And I know for us the morning sun will shine.

He sits on a barstool to watch the big game, While I sit and play my guitar. He hollers, 'Hey buddy, now what was your name? 'To get here, didja have to drive far?' Before I can answer he orders a drink, Makes a pass at the barmaid and gives her a wink, And forgets all about me as his nose turns to pink, While I sit and play my guitar. Two rows behind me sits a family of four Who came out to have a nice meal. The mother looks fragile, the father looks bored 'Til the little girls let out a squeal. They sound like the brakes on an 18-wheeled truck, The drunk at the bar does a cover and duck And I'm thinkin' that I should avoid the word 'flammable' While I sit and play my guitar. There's a loving young couple in the booth in the back Who are lost in a world of their own. They could star in a movie called 'When Tongues Attack' Coming soon to your nearest iPhone. In her left-hip pocket she's got a bus pass, Peaking out through the rip that shows off half her ass, But her boyfriend will find it before it's lost in the grass, While I sit and play my guitar. Strutting up to me is a former prom queen with a song that she just has to hear. She flashes a smile and she's workin' her jeans that she's got painted onto her rear. She could once make a man thank God he was a live, But her trim girlish figure didn't really survive, She's been poundin' the Pounders since '75, While I sit and play my guitar. There's John the owner, he's in charge of this crew, And he walks through the room with a grin. He just loves my music and all the songs I can do, And he thanks me for bringing folks in. I can't hear my voice for the roar of the crowd, That fills up the building and batters the clouds, And he says, 'Can you turn down, you're a little too loud, While you sit there, playin' your guitar.' I have been here five hours, but it feels like ten years, My fingers are tingling and sore. As I case up my Martin and tear down my gear, Someone yells, 'Buddy, play just one more!' 'You're a heluva picker; you're our favorite draw; Do you know any Skynnerd? how about some Outlaws?' But my tip jar is empty and I'm pissed-off because, All their talk is dirt-cheap, you can't spend the applause That you get when you're playin' guitar.

You can put me in a corner, push my back against the wall. You can beat me 'til I'm bloody, but you cannot make me fall; I'm still standin'. I saw planes fall in the morning; I saw smoke against the sky. I saw Death strike without warning. Despite the bitter tears I cried, I'm still standing. There's a time for peace they tell me; I know there's a time for war. When I saw my brothers dying, I knew what we're fighting for While we're still standing. You can run back to the darkness, try to find a place to hide, But you'd better watch your back, because we won't be satisfied While you're still standing. You can put us in a corner, push our backs against the wall. You can beat us 'til we're bloody, but you cannot make us fall, We're still standing.

Well I was talkin' to the man, I think it was a Friday night, He said, 'Buddy, don't you worry, I will always treat you right. I'll give you a place to play and pay you what you're worth.' Well I thought I'd found myself a little heaven right here on Earth, But you know, that it's true That the things that people say Are not the things that people do, They look at Life like it's a game, When I came back to play my gig, That cat could not recall my name And I'm waitin' for the the change to come. Well I was talkin' to my best friend, I think it was a Friday night, He said, 'Brother, don't you worry, I will always treat you right. You can tell me all your problems, you know I'll understand. I'm the man you can rely on when you need a helping hand.' But you know, that it's true That the things that people say Are not the things that people do, And a friend in need is a pain. Everytime I call my buddy, he's runnin' to catch a train, And I'm waitin' for the change to come. Well I was talkin' to my best girl, I think it was a Friday night, She said, 'Lover, don't you worry, I will always treat you right. I will be your lovin' woman; you will be my only man.' Well I thought the thing would just proceed according to the plan. But you know, that it's true That the things that people say Are not the things that people do. They speak of love and then they lie, And I found my lovin' woman in the arms of some other guy And I'm waitin' for the change to come. Well I heard some politician, I think it was a Friday night, He said, 'People don't you worry, I will make the whole world right. I'll be honest, I'll be brave, I'll be loyal and I'll be strong. You can trust me with your money 'cause I know what's right from wrong. But you know, that it's true That the things that people say Are not the things that people do, They look at you like you're a fool And they get to win the game because they make and they break the rules. They'll give you a dollar with their left hand, Steal five back with their right. Sometimes I got to wonder how the hell they sleep at night And I'm waitin' for the change to come.

It's been comin' for a long, long time. Got a brand new song with the same old lines. Gonna rob from the rich and give it to the poor, But stealin's still stealin', no matter who it's for. (Chorus) Don't tread on me, just step back, turn and walk away Don't tread on me, believe it, you ain't got a play Don't tread on me, you'll find out I mean what I say Just let me be Don't tread on me. You think you want the truth? boy, you'd better not ask. Don't try to get a glimpse of the face behind the mask. They'll tell you you're a free man, then steal away your vote. Put one hand in the pocket, put the other at your throat. (Chorus) Don't tread on me, just step back, turn and walk away Don't tread on me, believe it, you ain't got a play Don't tread on me, you'll find out I mean what I say Just let me be Don't tread on me. When the sheep are fat and happy, they only want to graze in peace. When you lead them to the slaughter, it's easy if they're half asleep. Don't tread on me. It's been comin', now I think it's here. We stand at the ready, cast aside our fear. I was born a free man, that's the way I'll die. If you want to take my freedom, well I'd like to see you try. (Chorus) Don't tread on me, just step back, turn and walk away Don't tread on me, believe it, you ain't got a play Don't tread on me, you'll find out I mean what I say Just let me be Don't tread on me.

Can You See? 03:27
One man's day is another man's night; One man's weakness is another man's might; One man's darkness is another man's sight; Tell me, can you see? One man's pleasure is another man's pain; One man's loss is another man's gain; One man's freedom is another man's chain; Tell me, can you see? Before you tell me dark from the light; Before you tell me sea from the skies; Before you tell me wrong from the right; Before you tell me truth from your lies, lies, lies, Tell me, can you see? One man's failure is another man's fame; One man's glory is another man's shame; One man's honor is another man's game; Tell me, can you see? One man's wound is another man's healing; One man's floor is another man's ceiling; In the halls of the wise, you know the paint is peeling; Tell me, can you see? Before you tell me dark from the light; Before you tell me sea from the skies; Before you tell me wrong from the right; Before you tell me truth from your lies, lies, lies, Tell me, can you see?

about

Pete Grubbs Brookville, Pennsylvania

I started performing music when I was 6, turned pro at 20ish & spent well over 30 years tracking down as many gigs a month as possible. While those days are behind me, I'm still making calculated noise. My music lives where rock, classical, folk, blues & parody hang out. Oddly enough, one of their favorite haunts appears to be in collections of my songs--you'll find a bit of each on every track. ... more
